Job Description PURPOSE: Applies basic skills and appropriate machining practices in turning, milling ,tooling processes as specified by work orders, blueprints, set-up sheets and verbal instructions. Machines parts consistently meeting or exceeding production, safety and quality targets. ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or G.E.D. Three to four years machining experience with at least two years related and/or in-house experience. Must have ability to comprehend engineering blueprints and be to understand all engineering documents. Must be able to calculate and set or modify speeds, feeds, and depths of cuts and tapers. Must have learned job layout and developed proficiency on Three CNC mills or two lathes. For tooling must be proficient with manual mill and lathe. Must be able to identify ITS tooling and set tooling to required specifications. Must be proficient with gages and measuring instruments. Ability to retrieved and process necessary information from machine control. Must have the ability to process necessary information from machines control and edit programs accordingly. Forklift and crane operation experience and certification required. Must have passed all classroom and hands-on training. TRAINING REQUIREMENTS: What training will an employee need to perform the duties of the position? Houston Operating Procedures. START Safety Program. Material Handling Equipment Certification. Training to use more advanced testing and measurement equipment. Non-Destructive Testing Training. Training to perform more advanced machining operations. May perform more advanced functions as part of training and development. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work environment and physical demands described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Exposed to possible shop hazards, which may include high noise, heavy equipment and machinery. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Stands, walks and bends 100% of time. Lifts up to 50 pounds manually, uses material handling equipment for over 50 pounds. Must have vision correctable to 20-20. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY AREAS: E/N Duties and Responsibilities E Reviews procedures, work orders, blueprints, set-up sheets and DBI?s (Data Base Information) and receives verbal work instructions to plan the job layout with as few set-ups as possible. E Reviews the NC program printout if necessary and identifies possible errors. Performs minor programming or program editing at machine controls if needed. E Independently selects the correct machine and tooling to do the job. Gathers required tooling and fixturing or places order with tool room if necessary. E Sets-up machine as required using prescribed detail and operating procedures. Calculates speeds, feeds, depths of cuts and tapers for machining. E Identifies the type of material being used and performs hardness testing. Corrects or modifies tooling call-outs, offsets, speeds and feeds to allow for variations in the material. E Performs the majority of machining operations needed to complete the part. Consistently meets or exceeds manufacturing, safety and quality targets. E Uses measuring devices to check all part dimensions. Performs and evaluates all Level I Non-Destructive Testing evaluations on finished part. Completes all Inspection documentation in a timely and accurate manner. Reports non-conformances to Quality department. E Uses material handling equipment to move parts and components to and from work area. E Performs all duties in a safe manner and keeps all employees aware of dangers in work area. E Practices good housekeeping in assigned area and properly disposes of waster according to safety and environmental policies. Participates, supports and sustain a high level of 5s. E Properly reports labor. E Promptly reports any operational problems or safety issues with machinery, tools or equipment to Team Leader. E Assists with orientation and teaches other Machinists proper techniques and procedures in mastered areas.
