Job Title: Engineering Supervisor/Plant Engineer

In this role, you will have overall management responsibilities for the supervision, maintenance and operations for the Central Plant unit. The central plant ensures steam generation and distribution, chilled water production and distribution, water and sewer distribution and natural gas distribution systems and serves our 3 main campuses in Raleigh. This position will ensure the reliability and dependability of the campus mechanical distribution systems through the efficient use of the Central Plant staff resources. This role will:Provide budgetary planning and control for the Central Plant Unit to include infrastructure maintenance, equipment and personnel.Manage utilization of utility corridor and tunnel space for steam, chilled water, domestic water and hot water distribution to ensure system flexibility and allowances for future expansion of campus building infrastructure.Manage and anticipate changes in campus building usage and impact to central plant systems. Schedule and plan for the implementation of corrective, preventive, and emergency maintenance as required to insure the reliable operation of the central plant boilers, chillers and associated distribution systems for this equipment. Schedules and coordinates all necessary utility interruptions to minimize impact to building occupants on the campus.Develop long range plans for central plant systems to meet campus growth and load increases. Evaluate changes in technology for applicability to plant systems.Interface with public utilities for domestic water, sewer, natural gas issues.Interface with regulatory and environmental agencies concerning compliance issues.Develop and maintain emergency plans and procedures to insure restoration of steam and chilled water service following failures or catastrophic events. Requires Engineering degree and 2 yrs related experience. Prefer proven experience in an industrial/power plant setting in a leadership role for 8 yrs. Experience with combined heat and power operations, maintenance and construction is essential. Chilled water and steam generation/distribution operation and experience is essential. Supervision of engineers and skilled trades staff is essential. Preference given to candidates with PE, Stationary Engineer license, and university or campus setting experience.
